Welcome To Hope’s Loving Hands The Blog

HI Everyone,

Well were should I begin?   I’ve been wanting to start a blog for a while and now it’s official I’m blogging.   I never new were to begin so I guess the beginning is a good start lol.  I learned how to crochet when I was ten years old from my baby sister Mrs Marian.  She use to crochet some beautiful thing but the on thing that caught my eye was the crochet toilet tissue holders.  She use to buy these beautiful chocolate dolls and make these fabulous dress that would cover rolls of toilet tissue.  I guess I'm telling my age with this one.  I really wanted learn how to do these but didn't know where to begin so on day I asked my mother if she could teach me.  My mother told me "Hope I don't really know how to crochet but if you want I can teach you how to knit.  Ask Mrs Marion to teach you to crochet I'm sure she would love too."  The next day when I went up stairs to Mrs. Marion's apartment so she could take me to school I asked her to teach me and after school we went to get yarn and a crochet hook at her favorite yarn supply place.   Who knew there was a beautiful yarns, hooks, and black baby dolls hidden on Lefferts Boulevard in Brooklyn.  It was a little store owned by an older Jewish man that was so delightful.  He gave me a free crochet hook and some yarn and told me to come back anytime, I miss those days.

The next day when Mrs. Marion picked me up from school I rushed home to finish my homework so I could start my crocheting journey.  Mrs Marion began to teach me how to hold a crochet hook.  Back then I don't think she knew there were two different ways to hold a crochet hook the PENCIL HOLD and KNIFE HOLD sho I know I did, lol.  But I didn't know the name of it but now I know it's call the KNIFE HOLD but as the years have gone I use a variation of both the Knife and the Pencil holds.  I learned to make a chain to learning the single crochet stitch and then I made a scarf.  As I progressed I finally learned how to make those toilet tissue holders I wanted to make and then the BED DOLLS OMG!!! Those were fabulous the were bigger and better than the toilet tissue holders and you could go crazy with the skirt because they were going on the bed so they could be as big and elaborate as you wanted them to be.

This was the beginning of my crocheting story....
